BEGINNER PILATES MAT
Ideal for persons who are looking to reduce discomfort from a great many different ailments. This class will spend much time teaching you about how your body works using the classic method developed by Joseph H. Pilates. Based on the Pilates "Six Principles" of Concentration, Control, Centering, Fluidity, Precision and Breath. Movements are executed on padded mats using your own personal capabilities. You will work on strengthening the "core" muscles of the body for improved posture, overall increased strength and a greater range of motion.
Gentle
INTERMEDIATE PILATES MAT
A continuation of the beginner mat bringing further awareness of the body and breath while adding on to the methodology.
ADVANCED PILATES MAT
This class utilizes the 6 Principals placing greater emphasis on "Fluidity" than in the prior levels. Props, such as weighted rings (developed by J.H.Pilates) as well as balls and hand weights are often added to the traditional method.
Prior experience and teacher approval are required.
PILATES UNIVERSAL REFORMER
Developed by the late, Joseph H. PilAtes, the Universal Reformer (UR) provides a wide range of exercises for the novice to the master. The UR objective is for complete body alignment. With a regular practice of the UR you will notice increased endurance, a slendering of the thighs and buttocks, strengthening of the abdominals, an opening of the shoulders, renewed length in the vertebrae and greater over-all stretch in the body. As you begin to master the UR you will possess the ability to exercise in a constant, flowing motion with minimal effort as your body becomes fully integrated.
The UR is done one on one by appointment with Stephanie.
THERAPEUTIC YOGA
This meditative, slower practice focuses on balancing the body with the spirit. Longer periods of time are spent in restoring postures designed to bring health and vitality back to the body. Pranayama (breath control) is part of every class as you learn how to let go of stress and inhale peace and tranquility. Greater emphasis is placed on the care and understanding of the spine. Asanas (postures) are therapeutic and gentle enough for those recovering from injuries and even surgeries.
